Important Covid Update

Dear Elk Valley Family,

Earlier this evening administration was made aware that a family member of a USD 283 employee tested positive for COVID-19. We are closely working with the Elk County Health Department and want to remind parents of the safety protocol. At this time the employee has not shown any symptoms and currently does not have a positive test. As always, we want parents to make their own decisions about their child’s health.

We want to ensure parents know we will take the steps necessary to protect the health of our students and staff. The family is now in quarantine.

The symptoms of COVID-19 are similar to the regular seasonal influenza and include fever, coughing, and shortness of breath. Some have reported additional symptoms, such as a runny nose, sore throat, nausea, lethargy, lack of appetite, vomiting, and diarrhea. Individuals who need medical care should call their medical provider to report their illness prior to seeking care at a clinic, physician’s office, or hospital. Parents of students exhibiting flu-like symptoms or staff exhibiting flu-like symptoms are asked to contact a school official, local health authorities, or the Elk County Department of Health.

We are closely monitoring this situation and will provide you with updates as we know more and at this time we will have school tomorrow, Tuesday, September 15th. Please continue to check our website, Facebook, and have your contact information updated in PowerSchool. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the district office at (620) 642-2215.

Sincerely,
