Happy National School Lunch Week (October 9-13)!
Every day, about 30 million students across the nation receive a healthy school lunch. School meals are planned to be consistent with the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, the national recommendations based on the latest nutrition science. We celebrate the many ways school lunches are offered using continued creativity and innovation. These efforts level up nutrition and ensure kids have the healthy fuel they need to learn and grow.
We want to thank our school nutrition professionals nationwide for your commitment to ensuring children are well-nourished and ready to succeed in school! Thank you for your hard work and dedication each and every day!

Kindergarten September Birthday Fun!

5th grade science with Mrs. Roach.
In our continued study of physical versus chemical changes, we
conducted an investigation to determine whether the mixing of two or
more substances would result in a new substance or chemical reaction.
We revealed hidden baking soda messages with the acids in
blackberries. Messy, but fun!

Mrs Roach completed training in a Summer Science and Cooking Teacher Professional Development Workshop supported by the Materials
Research Center at Harvard University's School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. The training focused on using food and cooking to enhance student experiences in the science classroom. Specifically, the focus in this week's Elk Valley middle school science lab was on the conservation of energy and mass, transfer and transformation of energy, and chemical versus physical changes. It was a deep dive into the science of browned butter and resulted in delicious conclusions!
